Lyrican't

Medication update: I am not taking Lyrica this weekend or until further notice and advice from a phycician!

Lyrica caused me some anxiety the first few days of taking it. Then three days in I started getting... grumpy. I started to dream cranky dreams and wake up cranky. By the 7th day I was waking up angry and going to bed angry. It caused a feeling of vague, indirect anger that could break easily into volatile emotional outbursts at the slightest trigger. I argued with my dad twice... which never happens, and I was outright catty to a good friend who has been there for me through the worst of it all. I woke up the next morning... angry at... everything. The smell of cigarettes lingering near one window. The morning light for being too bright and but also too gray from being overcast. Well, everything. Everything seemed stupid, dumb, and wrong and it made me grind my teeth in frustration.

Wait a minute, I thought, aren't mood changes a possible side-effect of Lyrica? But I shouldn't be having an adverse reaction THIS quickly!

I checked the symptoms list. I had all the side-effects-- dry mouth, dizziness, sleepiness, bloating, and yep-- emotionally volatile, anger, irritability, and anxiety.

Well shit.

So I skipped my dose Thursday night and also last night because I haven't been able to get in contact with a physician-- after all, Boulder is flooded right now.

So this weekend I am Lyrica free. It means I am having trouble sleeping, though part of that is my concern for my family's welfare as my folks were trapped in Lyons, the town with a 500 year flood.

(They are out now, so I am on my way to visit them. I am thankful that they are safe.)
